⠀
In Vía’s OT session today she got a therapressure brush. This evening we had some exposure time with it. It’s important to go with her cues and her acceptance or once she feels “stressed” she shuts down and refuses to accept what ever it may be that we’re doing/using (whether it be eating, drinking, or some other task). ⠀
.⠀
I’m hopeful that some daily exposure and usage could help with sensory regulation. Anything to help ease some of her anxiety which makes everyday exposures that another child her age may be OK with cause her to shutdown, become anxious, and be uncomfortable with others/locations/ and situations. ⠀
.⠀
To others these *meltdowns or shutdowns* seem just like a tantrum or just a bratty child. YES. She can be a BRAT for sure BUT other times theres more to it. The difference with her is sometimes these episodes of high stress cause complete shutdown or regression. ⠀
.
It’s seriously rattled my brain to connect the relations of everything TO her oral aversion. I’ve had her therapists and eval specialists tell me and explain things to me multiple times JUST to try to understand it all. I still struggle with it and for me to try to explain it to someone else…oy! Forget it lol!
.⠀
She was receptive to it and it was cute listening to her giggle with it. I let her *do what she wanted* with it between strokes on her arms and back. It was only 2-3minutes but I was happy she was ok with it and liked it. ⠀
