1 sheep. 2 sheep. 3 sheep. 4 sheep. Not working. Not working. .
Ever wish you could just turn off like a light switch! I’m actually pretty good generally at being able to shut my brain off UNLESS bombarded with some overwhelming emotions and thoughts.
.
I bet some out there can relate!?? Stressed, over thinker, worrier, hard worker, overachiever, super planner person, anxious,…this can go on and on!
.
Laying around unable to sleep, have you noticed trying to FORCE sleep only makes it worse?! Something I mention in my yoga classes is to focus on your breathing. As you inhale count to four. As you exhale count down to one. Another way is though a mantra. The constant repetition will help redirect the crazy thoughts and emotions swirling through your mind. There’s an amazing way of being in control and resetting your brain that TAKES PRACTICE for sure BUT it is possible to do. To ‘shut off’. Sometimes I forget to take my own advice. I get overwhelmed. Emotions and anxiety take over. It’s like a toxic gas just floating into my head. So last night between my thoughts I settled into prayer. A repetition of a verse to calm and bring me back to focus.
.
Whether it’s day or night. It truly understandably can be “work” to control our mindset. For me this phrase brought #peace and #comfort when needed. How ever something is interpreted to YOU is for you! Some may see or take it differently. We each see something, through the filter of the circumstances, of life we are in.
.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:8 NIV
.
Whatever you believe or wherever your faith stands. Try giving this exercise a little try next time your brain won’t turn off. Pick a phrase – maybe it is 1 sheep. 2 sheep. 3 sheep. 4….or maybe it’s a bit more focused and *connecting*.
.
I like to share what I find works for me…so maybe it could be worth trying too!
