My kiddos have taught me so much but one thing in particular…
.⠀
I call it THE SHIFT. ⠀
.⠀
Momming IS demanding. It’s not easy peasy. We don’t always want to do what they want us to do! Walk around in circles. Stop. Sit. Stand. Sway. Rock. “Uppie”…be held. Get this. Do that. Watch me. Mom. Mom. Mom….
WHY? Why don’t we want to do everything they request of us? Because we have “other things” on our minds that need to get done. AND MAYBE these things don’t really need to get done…..but you just want to get it done. ⠀
.⠀
Whether 3months old, 12months old, 8years old, etc. Sometimes they just want ME. JUST my presence. Truth: It can feel daunting. Exhausting. You oblige but you also find yourself looking at the time and seeing how much time has past since you stopped what you were doing to address their request. ⠀
.⠀
But eventually Momma. There is that SHIFT. The gift of presence. The Moment when your brain stops running on overdrive and you idle. Your mind goes from racing with the things I should and could be doing TO just APPRECIATING what’s in front of you. I’m grateful and THANK GOD every time THE SHIFT happens. It’s like God calling me to just STOP, BREATHE, & LET GO.
.
Even if my tummy is rumbling with hunger, or the washer buzzer just went off, laundry needs to get folded, clothes need to be switch into the dryer, dishes piled in the sink, or even if I’ve had to pee for the last 20 minutes.
.⠀
Even then, when the request they had is done or the babe passes out. You don’t move because NOW you’ve had that SHIFT. Now you’re appreciating this moment with your loved one because THAT is what’s important. That is what matters. Now you want time to slow down. THESE moments won’t last forever! These moments that took 10-30-60mins out of your day. That time is precious. It can’t be given back. Now we went from wanting time to hurry to wanting it to stand still. ⠀
.⠀
Calm the mind. Welcome THE SHIFT. Embrace it. Love it. Cherish it. Give Thanks!
