“The Best Dam Marathon Clean-Up” because we #GiveaDam! Some may wonder where this idea came from. It all was sparked initially years ago while running I couldn’t help but feel sad and disgusted with the trash on the roadways. A few years ago my studio hosted an Earth Day 5K. People came and went out and did 3miles worth of roadside clean up.
Last year before the Best Dam Race was held I challenged people to get out and #GiveaDam and clean up around them.
This year as my running buddies and I were training for a Marathon (Jeannie, Dawn, & myself -Sarah). The miles upon miles we ran would remind us of how people were such inconsiderate slobs (#thetruth) and we always were so disgusted with the trash on the roadways and that people would just throw it out intentionally.
Inspired by the thought of “What if everyone just took a mile and we cleaned a Marathons distance up of trash”?
So instead of the “what ifs and if only” WE took action.
Hosting an Earth Day Marathon where no one was required to run BUT to just take part in taking pride in our community and put forth effort to clean it up!!
We asked to see two person “teams” for this task!
Everyone met at Head to Toe Fitness Studio where bags, gloves, water to stay hydrated, and road miles were assigned.
26.2 (PLUS as we did over that amount) miles were walked between everyone that volunteered! That’s 13.1 (PLUS) miles of road cleaned up.
So so soooooo proud of everyone who came out!!
Around 70 BAGS were collected!! 5 trips to the dump!
It was hard to get every piece out there BUT KNOWING that what we picked up is less than what was out there yesterday is a good feeling!
