#Tuesdayfittip
A fantastic way to start incorporating more fitness into your daily regimen is to start walking!! I always say SOMETHING is better than nothing!!
Walking is simple and a GREAT way to get your body moving!! If you want to incorporate walking into you fitness there isn’t any reason to go all CRAZY hip swaying, flying arms pumping, etc.
K. I. S. S. – keep it super simple!!
• Stand tall and up straight, keeping your chin up and shoulders back (no heavy gorilla slouching arms)
•Don’t stare at your feet -stare straight ahead
•Let your arms bend naturally and move naturally. Shoot for a comfortable 90 degree bend in your elbows.
•Relax your hands! A tip I give runners that works for walkers too is to act as if holding a potato chip-no tense fists.
•Wear supportive shoes (not a good idea of walking for fitness to wear office flats, heels, loafers, boots etc)
•No need to huge leap like strides. AGAIN K. I. S. S. -walk naturally with a natural stride. (Less chance of pulling a groin muscle lol)
•Walk on safe flat surfaces -going on trails as your begin this lifestyle journey may not be best first time idea!
•Start at a slower pace, feel your breathing get a bit more labored than usual, allow your muscles to warm up before you pick up the speed
• AND OF COURSE…When finished, spend a few minutes doing gentle stretches — while our muscles are still warm there is less chance of injury!
Happy Walking!!
